Every year MPs welcome hundreds of school students to Parliament.
Andrew has always tried to meet visitors from the constituency to talk about the politics and history of Westminster, the work of an MP and about local issues. The best numbers are 10-30 on each visit and schools can visit more than once. State schools on the Isle of Wight are eligible to reclaim up to 75% of the cost of travel for one visit a year. The Parliamentary Education Service can suplly more detail.
Visits to London can also take in nearby London sights such as Tate Britain, the National Gallery or the London Eye before heading home. There are often free educational exhibitions in Parliament too (details on www.parliament.uk).
The best day for a tour for schools travelling up from the Island is a Tuesday when Parliament is sitting (October to July).
Andrew also visits schools visits throughout the year. The visits are a good opportunity for students and teachers to talk to Andrew about issues, as well as for him to see the school at work.
Tours are very popular and sometimes have to be booked up a long time in advance.
